My Vision for the FUTURE of District 2:

The current challenges facing our community are not exclusive to District 2. My vision is to uphold the existing progress, promote economic growth, and allocate resources towards infrastructure improvements.

My Vision is Our  Vision

By actively involving the community, we will make sure that this plan addresses the problems that the community faces while also fully realizing District 2's potential.

My Vision for a Thriving  District 2:

I will work to ensure that the residents of District 2 have the necessary amenities due any tax-paying citizen. District 2 is adjacent to Southern University and is home to the ever-growing Metropolitan Airport and Baton Rouge Zoo, among a host of valuable assets and historic treasures. These assets have the potential to stimulate the economy in our community.

My vision for Collaboration:

We must work to ensure that the community is at the forefront of all progress in District 2. Throughout the master plan process, I will provide the community with the utmost access, involvement, and transparency. In addition, I will work to build a bridge between residents, stakeholders, and city government. Together, we will chart the FUTURE path for District 2.

Economic Development

Local Business and Infrastructure Needs

Community Desires:

Our community is eager for growth and development. Residents have expressed a strong desire for new businesses, restaurants, stores, and entertainment options in our area. By focusing on these developments, we can foster a healthy economy that encourages residents to invest and spend money locally, supporting local entrepreneurs and creating jobs.

Access to Essentials:

A pressing issue our district faces is the lack of access to essential services and retail options within a reasonable distance. Currently, there are minimal local grocery stores and essential services nearby, forcing residents to travel long distances for everyday needs.  By addressing this issue, we aim to bring convenience and accessibility to our community, improving the quality of life for all residents.

Open-Air Shopping and Business Experience

Progressive Development:

To promote economic growth and attract a diverse set of businesses, we propose the introduction of open-air commercial developments. This modern development approach offers an engaging commerce experience that caters to the needs of our community while boosting the local economy. By embracing innovative ideas and concepts, we can create a vibrant commercial landscape that provides for it's residents and attracts visitors by enhancing our district's appeal.

Welcoming Business Environment

Leadership Impact:

Our goal is to create a welcoming and collaborative environment for developers and entrepreneurs. Through our leadership, we will establish strong partnerships with businesses to collectively remove zoning & permitting barriers while maintaining a robust and growing tax base for our district. By actively supporting business growth , we can pave the way for a prosperous future.

Community Collaboration

Community Centered Progress:

Keeping community at the center of the master planning process will ensure that policies are in place to protect the historic character of District 2 and protect housing affordability for our most vulnerable community members. â€‹â€‹

Community Infrastructure:

We are committed to continuing the investments sparked by the 2015 Masterplan put forth by then Mayor Kip Holden. By capitalizing on existing development and working with community, we will ensure that the next 10-year Master Plan will include more greenspace development, stormwater mitigation, and infrature improvement.

Youth Engagement:

Providing recreational programs and community activities is crucial to keeping young people engaged and away from crime. By offering a variety of engaging opportunities, we can inspire our youth to develop positive skills and build brighter futures.

Investment in Community:

Investing in existing programs and organization that support community well-being and deter criminal activity is essential. We need to prioritize funding and support for these organizations to fuel increased impact that drive to a safer and more vibrant community for everyone.

Understanding Crime Causes

Root Causes:

Addressing the underlying reasons for crime is key to long-term prevention. Factors such as a lack of programming and limited mental health services contribute to criminal behavior. By exploring comprehensive solutions, we can prevent crime before it starts.

Community-Police Relationship:

Building a strong relationship between the community and law enforcement is vital for improving trust and collaboration. By fostering open communication and mutual respect, we can work together to create a safer environment for all residents.

Mental Health and Addiction

Trauma and Crime:

Trauma often serves as a gateway to crime and addiction, highlighting the urgent need for accessible mental health resources and addiction treatment services. Addressing these issues is crucial for breaking the cycle of crime and supporting those in need.

Resource Accessibility:

It's important that residents are aware of existing mental health and addiction resources and know how to access them. By increasing awareness and ensuring easy access to these services, we can support the well-being of our community members and enhance overall safety.
